For most people, their local GP is the go-to for any immediate health matters. Some GPs specialise in skin health and can perform a skin examination. Dermatologists are skin specialists. But a referral is often needed, and the wait time can be weeks or even months. When you have a suspicious spot staring you in the face, the last thing you want to do is wait.

GPs with specialist training may remove potentially cancerous skin lesions.
